Description
“Crafting Bridges: Traditional Skills in a Modern Market” is an international mobility initiative implemented under the Anna Lindh Foundation’s ALFinMotion program, hosted by YRCI Albania in Elbasan from November 14–17, 2024. The project brought together participants from Albania, Malta, and Türkiye to rediscover and revitalize traditional crafts by connecting them with modern entrepreneurial tools and market demands.
Over four days, participants explored the rich potential of traditional skills—such as agro-farming, textile craftsmanship, and shoemaking—through study visits to local businesses, interactive hands-on workshops, and guided skill-building sessions. Each day was designed to merge cultural heritage with innovation, offering youth the opportunity to transform these crafts into meaningful sources of income and sustainable enterprise.
The first day focused on field immersion, where participants visited local farms, textile workshops, and iron forges to observe how traditional techniques can adapt to contemporary trends. In the afternoon, they experienced a live shoemaking session, learning the artistry behind one of Albania’s most iconic crafts.
The second day shifted toward entrepreneurship. Youth engaged in tailored workshops on business modeling, digital marketing, and intercultural communication for artisans. They concluded by pitching their craft-based business ideas to a panel of experts in a dynamic, supportive environment.
Special speakers—Serkan Erdoğan, Alec Bvumburah, and Mehmet Sağlam—offered cross-cultural perspectives and mentorship, reinforcing the value of traditional knowledge in today's evolving economy.
This bootcamp was not just about preserving heritage—it was about making it profitable, sustainable, and empowering. Participants left inspired to bridge the past and future, building new opportunities from old traditions.
